There’s no room for error when it comes to aerospace engineering. Aerospace companies need suppliers they can rely on, with accredited qualifications and the in-house expertise to manufacture safety-critical parts right the first time. Choosing an aerospace supplier that is not able to do this can lead to rising costs for part manufacture, unacceptable safety risks, and extended delays to projects.
As trusted engineering suppliers to the aerospace sector, M-CNC use our in-house CNC capabilities and ironclad quality management processes to guarantee perfect engineering every time.
1. Accreditations
As suppliers to the aerospace sector, we have attained the necessary verifications to reassure our customers that the parts they receive from us will be of only the highest quality.
We have attained AS9100 Rev D accreditation, which incorporates ISO 9001, through BSI. AS9100 Rev D is an internationally recognised aerospace standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS). We completed our audit with 0 NCRs (Non-Conformity Reports), demonstrating that our QMS meet the strict requirements of the aerospace industry.
Achieving this qualification also put M-CNC on the Online Aerospace Supplier Information System (OASIS), which any aerospace company can search to find us. We have also attained JOSCAR Registered status, giving both aerospace and defence customers assurance of our commitment and credentials.
2. First Article Inspection (FAI)
We conduct First Article Inspection (FAI) to confirm the manufacturing production process for a new part meets the needed specifications. We provide aerospace CNC machining with full FAI documentation.
Generally, we make one part from an order, stop the machines, then check every single dimension of the part we’ve made. The part is checked against the technical drawings and manufacturing specifications for the order.
We then produce a First Article Inspection Report (FAIR). This documents the implementation and verification of the part’s production:
- Form 1: Part Number Accountability
- Form 2: Product Accountability Raw Material, Specification and Special Processes
- Form 3: Characteristic Accountability, Verification and Compatibility Evaluation
3. CMM measuring
At M-CNC, we have industry-leading Aberlink CMMs (coordinate measuring machines) housed in temperature-controlled facilities. Our CMMs enable our technicians to provide accurate “first off” parts to our in-house inspection team.
CMMs can measure every angle of even the most complicated part to an incredible degree of accuracy. Our CMMs are also integrated with our CAD software (computer-aided design) to ensure every part we make meets the requirements of the original design.
We also use our CMMs to create a detailed data report of newly manufactured aerospace parts. This report is sent to our customers before the rest of the parts are even shipped, so they have total peace of mind.
4. “Lights-out” manufacturing
Because we ensure we make the first part right for our aerospace customers, our “lights-out” (overnight) manufacturing is 100% reliable. This provides numerous benefits:
- Cost saving: No wasted material and reduced labour costs lead to project cost savings.
- Reduced delays: Increased productivity and reduced delays increases the speed with which we can deliver parts.
- Quality assurance: Our robust quality management, FAI, and CMM measuring processes ensure consistent, superior quality.
